Masterclass XVI

Cyclodextrins in Biologics: From Peptides to Antibodies, Vaccines & Oligonucleotides

Online Masterclass | Free to attend

12 November | 5:00 PM CET / 11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PST

Biologics are transforming modern medicine — but their size, complexity and sensitivity create some of the toughest challenges in formulation, stability and delivery.

In this masterclass, we will explore how cyclodextrins can contribute to the development and delivery of biologics, from peptides and proteins to antibodies, vaccines and oligonucleotides.

We will look beyond the traditional role of cyclodextrins as solubilizers and formulation excipients and examine their potential as stabilizing agents, delivery components, immune modulators and building blocks for advanced delivery systems.

What will we cover?

• Peptides & proteins — formulation and stabilization challenges, and how cyclodextrins can help address them.

• Antibodies & biotherapeutics — aggregation, stability and high-concentration formulations, including examples of cyclodextrin-containing approaches investigated with therapeutic antibodies.

• Vaccines — cyclodextrins as formulation/stabilization components, cryoprotectants and potential adjuvants. We will discuss real-world examples, including the use of HPβCD in the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine formulation and cyclodextrin-based veterinary vaccines.

• Oligonucleotides & nucleic acids — how chemically modified cyclodextrins and CD-based polymers can contribute to the protection, transport and cellular delivery of RNA and other nucleic acids.

Commercial examples & case studies

The masterclass will connect published research with real pharmaceutical applications, highlighting where cyclodextrins have already reached the market and where emerging CD-based technologies are being developed.

We will discuss selected case studies covering vaccine formulations, antibody stabilization and advanced nucleic-acid delivery, including cyclodextrin-based nanovaccine platforms for peptide antigens.

The goal is not simply to review the literature, but to understand where cyclodextrins can genuinely add value in biologics development — and what challenges still need to be solved before promising concepts become products.

Who should attend?

This masterclass is designed for:

Formulation scientists • Drug delivery researchers • Biologics developers • Pharmaceutical R&D teams • CMC scientists • Analytical scientists • Vaccine and RNA developers • Academic researchers • CD specialists

Whether you are already working with cyclodextrins or are exploring them for the first time, this session will provide a practical overview of what CDs can do for biologics — and where the opportunities are next.
